Livin' on a Prayer Tour!: October 2010

Ubuntu -The BEST vegetarian restaurant hands down!! Simply amazing, completely organic and hand picked from their own gardens!!
It was, without a doubt the best dining experience I have ever had when it comes to vegetarian fare. We selected four dishes from the menu that the chefs create weekly from the Ubuntu biodynamic gardens. What's on the menu depends greatly on what the garden has produced that week. Everything is fresh, carefully combined to wake up the palate and leaves you craving more.
To start off we ordered wine- of course! We tasted four different local wines - sparkling, chardonnay, muscat, and cabernet sauvignon.
Our first dish was a mixed green salad in the shape of a snake with a light lemon grass oil dressing. Pansy petals were delicately placed within the salad and added a nice touch of colour among the greens.
The dish was tasty yet light and a great starter.
Our next dish was a soft warm bun stuffed with chewy burrata cheese (mozzarella mixed with cream) topped with 'soil' which is actually lightly sweetened crushed nuts. The dish is served with a pear puree, wild leeks, candied figs and sliced carrots.
Up next was a homemade pasta dish with swiss chard, topped with beet root and shaved parmesan cheese. Melt in your mouth goodness!
Our final dish of warm beans was served with 'crusty' parmesan and steamed chard. Yum!
For dessert, we ordered a dense chocolate mousse topped with elderberries and a lemon grass ice cream with little drops of toasted meringue on the side. Heaven!
Just to be sure we savoured every mouthful, we ate our dessert with just our tiny teaspoons. HA!
Our bill was brought to us with two delicious chocolate truffles - nice touch!
The service was amazing, the chefs did an incredible job and the atmosphere was comfortable yet chic.
We can't wait to visit again! If you are ever in the Napa area and love vegetarian food, this is the place!
